The apartment is in
the historic 11th arrondissement, close to Bastille and
within easy reach of all of Paris's main attractions, via excellent transport links.
It
is
just off the Rue de
Charonne, a bustling, narrow street, packed with independent food
shops, cosy bars and restaurants, and quirky boutiques which leads you
to the heart of the Bastille area.
On
your doorstep are several good cafes and restaurants, a
well-stocked fromagerie, a perenially crowded butcher's, a wine
merchant, a couple of excellent greengrocers' and a choice of
boulangeries.

For a younger nightscene, a short walk north will take you to the lively Rue Oberkampf, with its many bars and restaurants.
For day-time sight-seeing, the Pere Lachaise Cemetery - resting place of
Chopin, Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde, among other famous names - is an easy stroll from the apartment.
Also within walking distance is the Marais,
Paris'
renowned Jewish area in the centre of the city. From there, you can
easily reach the shopping boulevard of Rue de Rivoli, the Notre Dame
cathedral, the
two islands on the Seine and the Rive Gauche. There are direct bus
links back to the apartment, should you be flagging at the end of the
day.
Excellent bus
and metro links will also take you quickly to the Louvre, Les Grand Magasins (Galerie Lafayette & Printemps),
the Pompidou Centre, the Champs Elysee, Montmartre and to the main train
stations. For those arriving by car, the Paris ring-road ('le periph')
has an exit that is a short drive from the apartment, thus providing a
trouble-free route direct from the auto-route, avoiding central Paris.

All
you need to stock up on food supplies are close by. As well as the independent food shops, there are several
good local supermarkets, open until late. A larger upmarket supermarket (Monoprix) is a short
walk away at Nation. There are also hypermarkets at Porte de Montreuil (Carrefour) and Bagnolet (Auchan), accessible by car, bus or metro. There are two open-air food markets nearby, one at Place d’Aligre in the 12th arrondissement (open
everyday, except Monday, until about 1pm) and another at Bastille on
Boulevard Richard Lenoir (open on Sundays until about 2pm).

At
the bottom of the road, there is a children's playground within a small
park with shaded benches and lawn. Just across the Rue de Charonne, there
is another,
more
enclosed park with sandpit, climbing frames and other play areas. This
one closes at
around 5pm. Around the arrondissement, there are several enclosed play
areas, which are generally well-maintained and clearly marked on maps.
Parking
in the street outside the flat is possible on a very short-term basis
but be prepared to do some proper Parisian bumper-to-bumper parallel
parking. For longer term parking, there is a secure underground car park a 10-minute walk away, costing roughly 80 euros per seven-night stay.
